Activity and Accommodation all in one!
The Flying Fox have teamed up with Whanganui River Canoes to provide you with an accommodation and canoe experience. We’ve arranged a total package for you so that all you have to do is turn up and enjoy. You can choose your start point meaning your paddle time will be anywhere between 3 and 6 hours. With add-on options for a canoe guide, extra days or a welcome gift basket this is the ultimate easy-to-book trip.
- ACCOMMODATION – Two nights in a self-contained cottage.
- CATERING – Two continental breakfast baskets, one packed lunch
- TRANSPORT – From the Flying Fox, enjoy a scenic drive up the Whanganui River Rd to Ranana, Jerusalem or Pipiriki
- CANOE – From your chosen start point back to the Flying Fox
Arrive in the afternoon at the Flying Fox where your car will be securely parked. Traverse the river on our aerial cable car, then settle into your unique hand built cottage. Spend the afternoon exploring the Flying Fox site, take a swim in the river, or walk to the nearby historic Koriniti Post Office. Relax and enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the evening with a glass of wine or perhaps a soak in a bush bath.
After enjoying your continental breakfast, collect your lunch and take a scenic journey up the Whanganui River Rd with your driver. You will be given a full safety briefing and equipped with everything you need to canoe safely back to the Flying Fox.
This leisurely paddle down the river will take between 3- 6 hours (depending on your preference) with time to stop and explore along the way. This is a tranquil section of the river where you can truly get away from the crowds (and jet boats) and experience the serenity and natural beauty of the National Park. You will pass several historic settlements where you have chance to stop and explore if you so wish. Otherwise just settle in and enjoy the breath taking scenery as you float along. Arrive back at your accommodation where hot showers will be waiting and you can relax for the remainder of the day.
An experienced and qualified guide to accompany you for the day to assist with technique and provide information and history as you float along.
ADD AN EXTRA DAY
Why not make the most of your trip and add an extra night at the Flying Fox? Spend your extra day relaxing at this tranquil site or explore the River Rd by car or mountain bike. Here you can take in sites such as the historic Kawana flour mill, the Matahiwi cafe and art gallery and the convent at Hiruharama (Jerusalem) founded by Suzanne Aubert. Alternatively the Atene Skyline track is just a few kms away and offers a two hour lookout walk or a full day tramp.
