The James K Cottage is named in memory of New Zealand’s famous poet James K Baxter, who spent time in a small community in nearby Jerusalem.
This cottage has been reconstructed from its original life as a barn for earlier owners of our property. Native totara floorboards have been salvaged from the original derelict farm-house and the interior walls have been constructed using volcanic pumice which washed down our valley some 1800 years ago following the eruption of LakeTaupo.
The second -storey bedroom has a roofed porch overlooking the river and a second bedroom, adjacent to the lounge. Each bedroom has a queen-sized bed and an extra single bed.
A selection from our collection of James K Baxter’s poetry and literature is kept in this cottage and those with a particular interest need only ask to see more.
Self-catering $200 per night, double or twin, $40 for each extra person
